…is an ongoing project currently consisting of 21 large size pictures that I have been taking since 2008, documenting the quiescent, but highly captivating time of night: Before Tomorrow – Yesterday is past. Tomorrow does not yet exist.
The atmosphere of ordinary bustling, bright and loud places has always attracted my attention and I am further drawn to these once all the hustle and human activity has calmed for the night. The deserted and tidy alley way of a street market in Shanghai, a park in the centre of a megacity, abandoned and calm, the construction site at Ground Zero in New York, closed and in silence.
A day and all of its many tasks, sounds and sights have come to an end. Most people have retreated into the intimacy of their homes, but not without having first cleaned up, locked their doors and put the trash out to be collected in the street. For a few sacred hours, ease and tranquility run the world.
Just enough time for everybody to take a breather before the forthcoming bustle and dynamics of the next day….
